Camera type
A medium-format SLR works like a 35mm SLR scaled up for 120 roll film. The negative is nominally 6×4.5, 6×6 or 6×7 cm, several times the area of a 35mm frame. The systems differ a lot. Hasselblad V and Mamiya RB67 lenses each carry a leaf shutter that syncs flash at every speed, and their film backs come off. The Pentax 67 has a focal-plane shutter timed electronically, so it needs a battery to fire. These cameras are heavy and slow to use, and they reward careful work on a tripod.
