Hasselblad goes back to an 1841 trading company in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the cameras start with Victor Hasselblad. In 1941 Ross AB began building the aerial and ground reconnaissance cameras he designed for the Swedish Air Force and army. The 1600F of 1948 was the first civilian model, a 6×6 SLR with interchangeable film backs. The 500C of 1957 dropped the earlier models' troublesome focal-plane shutter for a leaf shutter in each Zeiss lens, and that design carried the line for fifty years. The 500C/M followed in 1970 and stayed in production until 1994. Three motor-driven 500 EL cameras flew on Apollo 11. The V system name only arrived after the H system launched in 2002, and DJI took a controlling stake in 2017.
