Brand
Rolleiflex cameras come from Rollei, founded in Braunschweig, Germany, in 1920 as Franke & Heidecke, the workshop of Paul Franke and Reinhold Heidecke. Their first product was the Heidoscop stereo camera, and the Rollei name comes from its 1923 roll-film version. The first Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex went on sale in 1929, shooting 6×6 on 120 film, and the cheaper Rolleicord followed in 1933. Lenses came from Zeiss and Schneider, Tessar, Planar and Xenotar among them. The 2.8F in our catalog was made from 1960 to 1981 with a Zeiss Planar f/2.8. The company became Rollei-Werke in 1962, built the SL66 and SLX medium-format SLRs, and kept the TLR alive in later versions like the 2.8GX of 1989 and the 2.8FX, made from 2002 to 2012.
