Olympus · 35mm SLR · 1979–1987
The OM-10 arrived in 1979 as the easy way into Olympus's OM system. It shares the OM-1's 136 × 83 × 50 mm body size and takes every OM-mount Zuiko, but it's built around aperture priority. You set the f-stop on the lens and the electronic shutter picks a speed between 1 s and 1/1000 s, with LEDs down the left side of the finder showing what it chose. For manual control Olympus sold a small Manual Adapter that plugs into the front and gives you a speed dial, and it's the accessory to look for in a listing. The OM10 Quartz of 1980 added a fixed data back for printing dates on the film. Early production had known trouble with the electronics, the meter and the shutter magnets, and a revised shutter followed. It stayed in the catalog until 1987.
The variants
The OM10 Quartz of 1980 is the same camera with a fixed data back. The Manual Adapter is a separate small accessory, so check whether a listing includes it.
Early OM-10s had known problems with the electronics, the meter and the shutter magnets, which Olympus answered with a revised shutter. The shutter is electronically controlled, and with no mirror damper it's a fairly loud camera.
Buying guide
We'd buy the OM-10 titled bench tested with a Sigma zoom at $88 delivered, or the one titled tested and working with a Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 at $160 if you want the standard lens. There are at least 210 for sale, mostly from US sellers, and most ask $90–170 delivered. Without the small plug-in Manual Adapter it only shoots aperture priority, so check the photos for it, and the $130 US body titled tested working comes with one. It can't fire without its two SR44 or LR44 cells, and early bodies had known trouble with the electronics, meter and shutter magnets, so ask for a video in auto aimed at a dark corner and then a bright window. Skip the listings that show no seller, and the Japan zoom kit at $313, over twice the median.
$58.27est. delivered
The lowest delivered OM-10, a chrome body only from a US seller, at $58. There's no test claim and no Manual Adapter in the title, so ask for a video firing in auto on fresh cells.
