Minolta · 35mm SLR · 1984–1990, then in China into the 1990s
Minolta introduced the X-300 in 1984, sold as the X-370 in the US and Canada, as the simpler sibling of the X-700. It keeps aperture priority, adds AE lock and metered manual, and leaves out program mode, off-the-film flash metering and the depth-of-field preview. The cloth shutter is electronically timed, stepless out to 4 s in auto and 1 s to 1/1000 s in manual, and red LEDs in the finder show the meter reading. An all-black version, the X-7A, followed in 1985. Around 1990 production moved from Japan to China, the later X-370s was made there with plenty of plastic, and the design became the base for the Seagull DF-300 and many clones. It mounts the same Minolta SR lenses as the X-700.
The variants
The X-300, X-370 (US and Canada) and all-black X-7A of 1985 are the same camera with only minor differences. The X-300s, X-370n and X-370s and the X-7 differ more, and the X-370s was made in China.
It's electronically operated and won't fire without its cells, with no mechanical backup speed. Some X-370s bodies have no cable release socket, and the focusing screen can't be changed.
Buying guide
We'd buy the X-370 titled tested with a 50mm lens and a Vivitar 2800 flash at $136 delivered, or the body-only one titled tested and working at $77 if you already have Minolta SR lenses. There are about 180 for sale, all from US sellers here, and most ask $65–120 delivered for an X-370, X-300 or all-black X-7A, which are the same camera. It has no mechanical backup speed, so it won't fire without its two LR44 cells (or SR44s, or one 3 V lithium). Ask for a video firing in auto and manual on fresh cells and a photo of the battery contacts. Several sellers use the same "Kit with 50mm OEM Lens, Tested and Working" title and four cards show no seller, so compare photos and check feedback on the item page. Skip the $168 copy of that title, since another seller asks $74 delivered under the same words.
$43.16est. delivered
The lowest fixed-price X-370 that isn't sold for parts, a chrome body for $43 delivered. There's no test claim and no lens, so ask for a video of it firing in auto and manual on fresh LR44s.
Minolta X-370 35mm Film SLR Camera Body, Chrome
$67.78est. delivered
Titled tested, with a Tokina 80-200mm zoom, at $68 delivered, under the band. A test counts on a camera that can't fire without its cells, but the zoom is a telephoto, so budget for a 50mm too.
Minolta X-370 35mm SLR Film Camera + RMC Tokina 80-200 mm Lens TESTED
$136.32est. delivered
Titled tested, with a 50mm the seller calls OEM and a Vivitar 2800 flash, so it's ready to shoot. At $136 delivered it's a little over the band, in line with the other 50mm kits here at $98–140, so ask for a backlit photo of the lens to check for haze.
